Dear Families and Friends of Erie Prep Academy,
As we wrap up our second school year and look ahead with excitement to the next, I want to take a moment to reflect and express my deep appreciation for everyone who made this past year so meaningful. We’ve shared memorable experiences with remarkable students and dedicated staff, and our campus continues to be a place where students can fully develop themselves.
Our theme verse for this year was Jeremiah 29:11: "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." We know that God has moved in a significant way this year for EPA and continues to have plans for Erie Prep as we step forward into the future.
We are proud to share that Erie Prep Academy just celebrated the graduation of 18 students—our largest graduating class to date! This milestone is a testament to the hard work, perseverance, and growth of our students and faculty, and it marks a significant step forward for our school community.
This year also marked the retirement of Pastor Steve, a beloved figure who has left an enduring legacy at Erie Prep. In his honor, we introduced a senior award named “The Dreamer”, reflecting his inspiring motto: “My dreams come true when your dreams come true.” Pastor Steve personally presented the first award to graduate Jose Olaco, making for a truly special moment.
We celebrated our inaugural year as participants in the PIAA, ushering in a new chapter for our growing community of student-athletes. Some now compete in the PIAA while others continue on the Prep circuit. This reflects our commitment to nurturing well-rounded students through both academics and athletics.
Another exciting highlight was the official unveiling of our school mascot: the Yeti. It’s quickly become a beloved symbol of our school spirit. This year, we introduced a “Yeti Award”, given to a student who embodies perseverance and grit. That honor went to Ido, who arrived from halfway across the world and overcame every challenge—from language barriers to adapting to a new educational system. His story of transformation from uncertainty to success is one we will never forget.
Looking ahead, we’re excited to announce that Mr. Ryan Kelly will be joining our administrative team while continuing to teach a few classes. He will serve as both Guidance Counselor and Director of Athletics. Congratulations, Mr. Kelly! We also welcome Dr. James Bonanno, our new History Teacher, to the Erie Prep family. We look forward to all he brings to our academic team. Additionally, we will be welcoming a new Director of Residence Life and Housing, Ms. My Nguyen to help guide our growing international population during their time in Erie, PA.
As we prepare for the 2025–2026 school year, we hope you enjoy a restful and well-deserved summer break. Our first day of school is August 26, 2025—and as always, summer in Erie tends to fly by!
Thank you for being part of this incredible journey. We can’t wait to see you in August.
Go Yeti's,
Phil Gernovich
Executive Director, Principal
Erie Preparatory Academy
